The available records show official registrations commencing in 1863 when the first pupil, Ellen King from Glounaprehane, registered in that year. The first six to register were:

- James Crowley, Lack (1865)
- Ellen Sheehan, Tonlegee (1865)
- Margaret Honan, Lack (1866)
- Mary Kelly, Lack (1866)
- Andrew Kelly, Tonlegee (1866)
It is noteworthy that James Crowley was the first male to be registered. The son of the school teacher, he was only 2 years of age at registration in 1865. It appears that the teacher set out to give his son the number one position on the male register notwithstanding his age.
