Andrew (Sonny) Honan from Lack registered at Lack School in 1911. While he was a rather disorganised student − school books were usually lost within a short time − it mattered little, as Sonny had the entire contents in his memory and could quote them as required, in some instances up to his death on 20 March 1989. He was a very clever student with a special aptitude for literature. Later on, those of us who attended Lack School in the 1950s marvelled at his recall of prose, poetry, dates and facts covering a wide range of subjects. He enjoyed the challenge as much as we enjoyed the novelty of an occasional encounter with a unique brain and personality. We could only wonder what he would have achieved had he been given the opportunity.
